MRIS Cares. Together, We Help When It’s Needed Most.

MRIS proudly understands its role as a leader in the Real Estate communities it serves.  We are committed to supporting groups and individuals within the community who are at risk or who have experienced disaster.

The role of MRIS Cares is to proactively seek local, national, and international charitable opportunities for consideration by the MRIS Charitable Contributions Committee (MRIS CCC), throughout the calendar year and in times of disaster. The MRIS Cares team acts swiftly to research charities and make recommendations to the MRIS Executive Committee to make sure donations will go where they are needed most.

We’re made up of a group of MRIS staff volunteers and Board of Director volunteers.  The MRIS Cares group is chaired by Diana Smith, Director of Project Management and Quality Assurance.

Below is a list of recent MRIS Cares community outreach initiatives:

Local

Partnering with Local Shelters in their Efforts to Eliminate Homelessness

Local Shelters provide a continuum of services to homeless and at risk families.  They rely on the generosity of the community. In 2013 MRIS Cares and the entire MRIS Staff collected urgent needs items and donated those items or made contributions to 6 shelters in the MRIS footprint:

  • Stepping Stones Shelter in MD
  • N Street Village in DC
  • Embry Rucker Shelter in VA
  • House of Ruth in MD
  • Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission in WV
  • South Central Community Action Programs in PA

Run for Shelter 10K

Carpenter’s Shelter is a proactive partner with the city of Alexandria and the greater Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area working to eliminate homelessness.  MRIS Cares sponsored and ran in the November 2013 Run for Shelter 10K, powered by and representing all of our Customers!

Drumstix Dash

MRIS supported Housing & Counseling Services of Northern Virginia and their dedicated efforts to help those who are less fortunate hold on to their homes.

2nd Annual Adam D. Cockey, Jr. Community Leadership Award

MRIS recognized that Real Estate professionals and MRIS staff often go the extra mile to get involved in programs and activities that benefit the communities in which they live and work.

This award is designed to inspire all of us to make a difference in the lives of others.  The most recent Adam D. Cockey, Jr. Community Leadership Award winner is Alfred Tim Kagan of Mid-Shore Board of Realtors.

National

Peoria Area Association of Realtors® Tornado Relief fund.

MRIS provided a contribution for assistance to Realtors for relief from the tragic tornado that struck in Peoria, Illinois in November.

Toys for Tots

MRIS staff and leadership collected over 450 toys in the annual toy drive campaign.

Ashland Home

MRIS made contributions to support Ashland Home’s efforts to provide at risk women with a safe, sober, and nurturing home to begin their journey to recovery.

International

Typhoon Haiyan

According to Philippine authorities, more than 11 million people were affected by Typhoon Haiyan that struck in Nov 2013.  More than half a million homes were destroyed, hundreds of schools damaged and millions of children put at risk.

A contribution from MRIS Cares supports the much needed effort of delivering critical assistance that children desperately need in the aftermath of the catastrophic typhoon
