MRIS Cares. Together, We Help When It’s Needed Most.
The role of MRIS Cares is to proactively seek local, national, and international charitable opportunities for consideration by the MRIS Charitable Contributions Committee (MRIS CCC), throughout the calendar year and in times of disaster. The MRIS Cares team acts swiftly to research charities and make recommendations to the MRIS Executive Committee to make sure donations will go where they are needed most.
MRIS CCC began contributing to Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts, but officially formed in response to the earthquake disaster in Haiti in 2010. Below is a list of 2012 current inicatives:

eAid Contribution & Help Freddie Walk Campaign – Dulles, VA
HomeAid Northern Virginia builds and renovates homeless shelters, transitional houses, food banks, medical clinics, counseling centers, and other facilities that help homeless people gain stability and a roof over their heads. HomeAid also remodels homes for people who are handicapped and need handicap accessible renovations. MRIS Cares is helping by providing contributions to HomeAid’s community campaign to Help Freddie Walk and its homeless related endeavors.

Collecting Urgent Need Items for Local Homeless Shelter – Rockville, MD
Stepping Stones Shelter provides a continuum of services to homeless and formerly homeless families. The shelter is in need of several basic personal and household items. MRIS Cares is helping by collecting the items on their list that are urgent needs and donating them to the shelter.

Run for Shelter 10K – Alexandria, VA & Washington, DC
Carpenter’s Shelter is a proactive partner with the city of Alexandria and the greater Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area working to eliminate homelessness. MRIS Cares will contribute to this cause and be the title sponsors of their April 2012 Run for Shelter 10K. We would represent not just MRIS, but ALL of our Customers because we are powered by REALTORs in DC, VA, & MD and parts of WV and DE!

Home Makeover Renovation with Partnership for Housing – Gaithersburg, MD
The Partnership for Housing Foundation, along with Harkins Builders, has committed to finish the remaining renovation for a long time Montgomery County resident work under their MARYLAND HOME MAKEOVER™ program. The mission of this program is to assist Maryland homeowners with basic housing needs and improve their quality of life. MRIS Cares will help by providing volunteers to assist with the renovation project.

Adam D. Cockey, Jr. Community Leader Award
Named after former MRIS Chairman of the Board, Adam D. Cockey, Jr., the award recognizes real estate professionals who have demonstrated an unsurpassed commitment to community service and activism. The Community Leader Award is inspired by Cockey’s 40 years of philanthropic efforts that have impacted local, regional, and national organizations. As the newest addition to MRIS Cares, MRIS’ philanthropic outreach committee, the Community Leader Award contributes $3,000 to the charity of the recipient’s choice, and awards the recipient with $2,000.
